Laguna Beach Workshop

This collection brings together photographs created during the Laguna Beach Coastal Photography Workshop [September 2026] following the coastline from Main Beach and Heisler Park to Rockpile Beach and Monument Point. The images move between broad coastal landscapes, intimate details, and moments of changing water and light—reflecting the variety of subjects found within a relatively small stretch of the Laguna Beach shoreline.

From the iconic lifeguard tower at Main Beach and a bird of paradise growing near the coast to elevated views above Rockpile Beach, the collection gradually moves closer to the water. At sea level, waves surge through tide pools, roll across exposed rock, and break around Monument Point, revealing the texture and energy of the Pacific from a very different perspective.

Several photographs explore Monument Point in greater depth. Movement Around Monument Point concentrates on the patterns created by water moving through the rocks, while Sunset Rays at Monument Point captures a fleeting moment when sunlight broke through an overcast sky near the end of the day. Framed Coastline from Heisler Park steps back from the water, using the surrounding landscape to frame a broader view of the Laguna Beach coast.

Together, the photographs reflect one of the central ideas of the workshop: a familiar location can produce very different images when you change your viewpoint, pay attention to the edges of the frame, respond to changing conditions, and continue working the scene. The result is a visual study of Laguna Beach from bluff top to sea level—and of the many photographic possibilities found along its rugged coastline.
